At USAID, COVID-19 is not only a health crisis but also a national security, development, and humanitarian crisis. The effects of the pandemic will be long-lasting, and the Agency must prepare for long-term changes in the development and humanitarian landscape. USAID launched the Over the Horizon initiative to equip the Agency for the challenges and opportunities of a world altered by COVID-19.

USAID responded to natural disasters with aid to Central America, the Philippines, Sudan, and Vietnam. We also agreed to partner with U.S. retail giants to help their supply-chain workers in Asia hit hard by COVID-19 restrictions.

Collaborating with USAID
USAID and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre each committed $1 million to help rehabilitate cyclone shelters and fund other risk reduction measures in Cox’s Bazar. More than 860,000 Rohingya live in the refugee camp.
