The world is experiencing some of the worst levels of food insecurity in modern history. Administrator Samantha Power issued a dire warning about the crisis this month, saying “these are extraordinary times and they call for extraordinary measures,” with as many as 828 million people going hungry. She announced nearly $1.3 billion in additional assistance to help stave off mass starvation and deaths, and traveled to East Africa to see the impact of the food crisis firsthand.
